Jitney's Journeys : Our First Wedding!!

When Jessica messaged us on Etsy about making 22 centerpiece placemats, I was curious as to what she would use them for. Regardless, I still answered with a resounding, "Yes! We can definitely put 22 centerpiece placemats together for you."

Next message excerpt: "I'm getting married in October..."

My eyes grew wide and my heart started racing with excitement! We get to create something for someone's wedding -- our first wedding that we can actually be a part of through the product line of Jitney's Journeys!!

If you couldn't tell from our previous posts, JD and I love marriage. Love. It. And for us to have the honor of making centerpiece mats for somebody's wedding - their first day of their marriage... we were pumped to say the least. Just like every personalized piece or order we put together, those centerpiece mats were prayed over. All twenty-two of them. Because of Etsy, we are able to pray for people we will most likely never meet. It's a beautiful way to see God at work.

So, here's a few photos of what we sent her, in order of the opening process...

Please note that I blurred out the addresses. :)

The Todd Nest : Guest Bedroom Revamp

Yesss!!

It is finally finished.

Remember when we posted about our new guest bedroom furniture a couple of weeks ago?

It looked like this...

We threw a plant and a globe on there to make it look somewhat complete, but let's be honest here... that just doesn't cut it around the Todd Nest.

It didn't take long for inspiration to hit as I began unpacking a few other things and started to develop a theme of milk glass, dried flowers and burlap.

Simply charming, no?

We found the shutter laying on the side of our street a few Sunday mornings ago. We were running somewhat late for church (we were meeting with someone before the service) and I was rushing JD out of the door. "HURRY!! We gotta go!!" So he's driving down our street when I begin yelling, "SHUTTERS!! SHUTTERS!! REVERSE, REVERSE!!" After he realized what I was attempting to say, we hopped out of the car, snatched those big guys up and threw them in the backseat. And off to church we went. We actually made it on time (in case you were wondering).

Worth. It.

The burlap centerpiece is actually a small portion of a special order I'm making for an Etsy customer's wedding. Won't that be lovely? I loved it so much that I've decided to make another one with a T to put in its place. Until I ship that order, I'll be leaving it here for safe-keeping. ;)

We bought the lamps from Hobby Lobby as one of our first "real" home decor purchases. I was drooling over these things!! But then I got tired of them and decided to put them in a yard sale... until I decided they would look fantastic in this set-up. So, I kept them and I'm happy with them again.

Story of our life. Always changing things around. This is why it's a bad idea to throw things away in this family. I will always find another place for it, you just gotta give it some time.

Finally, the books. I wrapped all three of these books in shipping / packing paper. One is an atlas of the galaxy, one is an old school Laura Ashley decorating book and one is a faux painting book (I'm mainly documenting this for my own memory of when I forget what's wrapped up in there). I considered writing the names of the books on the sides in pretty cursive but decided against it because I just love the simplicity of it.

What do you think of the new set-up?
How long does it normally take you to gain inspiration for finishing a bedroom design?
Do you change things up often or leave it be for a while?

Jitney's Journeys : Burlap Corkboard with Frame and Pocket

A couple of weeks ago, my friend Lauren invited me over to her house to help her design a collage wall for her front entryway.

"Great is Thy Faithfulness" is the theme of the wall with rustic red, black, white and burlap accents.

As we were envisioning the final product, we decided to add a third burlap piece. Thus, came this:

Lauren will fill the pocket with letters from the kids they worked with in Africa and put a 5 x 7 photo on the left. It's going to look AMAZING on her collage wall she's putting together!!!

Here are the details if you'd like for us to make you something like this...

For Lauren, I made this piece a corkboard with a burlap covering. The pocket has a lovely ivory trim and Love painted on it. Other ideas for the pocket could be... Family, Memories, Letters, a quote or Bible verse.

Price is determined by size and materials (for example, Lauren bought this frame so that cut out the cost of a frame). I know I say this often, but I seriously have the greatest friends / customers to work with. It's such a joy to envision such amazing pieces with them and then to actually bring those visions to life. What a blessing!

Christmas Decor at the Todd Nest : Staircase Edition

I really love our house.

Maybe that's a little vain sounding, but I feel like it should be a good thing too, right? We should be happy and content with what we have -- and we really could not be happier. This house is perfect for us.

Decorating for Christmas has only made me more excited about this house, the house in which God has graciously made our home. We'll start out posting about our decor with the entrance to our home, which we have yet to reveal on our blog. Our house is a split level, so as soon as you walk in, you have the choice of either going up or going down. This was one of the "negative" features of the house, according to our real estate agent but we haven't found any fault in it.

JD and I finished putting up the barnwood wall Tuesday night. This project has been on our list for a while. I hate bare walls, especially this one above the lower staircase. I realize there is a potential beauty in bare walls - and some people can really make them work - but that just won't do in the Todd Nest. Our plan is to put up a few large photos and interchange handwritten signs that correlate to the seasons. My vision for it is totally there, now it's just a matter of making it happen.

Color inspiration for this season: golds and browns

As soon as you walk in, you're greeted by this lovely arrangement. Basically, I went to Hobby Lobby's floral section, started piecing things together that appealed to my eye and topped it off with a neutral peacock feather. That's the main statement piece when you walk into the tiny foyer.

We draped the handrail with garland and put a burlap bow at each break. Three ornaments are draped from each bow. One of the ornaments is a rustic jingle bell. You may recognize the larger white "ornament"from our Thanksgiving table centerpiece jar. It's actually a larger decor ball I found sitting beside the smaller box of decor balls in the home decor section at HL. I made it into an ornament by twisting in a metal hook (I had to hot glue the hook into the other two balls because they are a little different from this one) and then hanging it from string. Super easy homemade ornament. ;)

How amazing is this glass block wall? It's one of those statement pieces in the house that you decide to either hate or embrace. Surprisingly, I have very-much-so embraced it. As Mama E says, "This house will have no style (categorically) because it will be made up of sooo many different styles, which will then be created into a style of its own." With the barnwood wall perpendicular to this glass wall, we're combining modern and cottage chic. Hopefully my vision will turn out as great as I'm thinking....

Anyway, we draped garland from this wall as well and hung a burlap bow with three smaller ornaments hanging from the bows.

What is your color / material(s) inspiration for this season?

PS: We'll try to post about the barnwood wall steps after Christmas. :)

For Life Ministries : Shop with a Purpose

Last week, we had the honor of setting up a table at For Life Ministries' annual Shop with a Purpose. For Life Ministries' mission is "to equip, educate and empower the next generation to meet the needs of the many orphaned, widowed and oppressed through various avenues and programs". The ministry aims "to teach and nurture them in the truth of Christ's unconditional love applied in all situations, regardless of gender, color or nationality." The event was held at an absolutely - breathtakingly - gorgeous home. The home is so beautiful, in fact, that they will be a stop on the Huntsville Tour of Homes for Christmas (which is why they already have a few Christmas decorations adorning the home).

The purpose of the event is to bring awareness to local and international orphans, and to offer opportunities for sponsorships for those children. When the event ends, each vendor donates a portion of their proceeds to the ministry as well. To learn more about For Life Ministries, you can visit their website here or their Facebook page here

We've been keeping late hours and early mornings to ensure that we had everything in place for our booth this year...

We still didn't finish everything we wanted to have out, but I think we had a pretty good selection for customers to choose from...

{The Todd Nest customizable wooden board}
{1 qt. double-sided glass-etched jar}
{Proverbs 3:3 mixed media}
{monogrammed placemats}
{glass-etched mason jars with chalkboard lids}

{single and quadruple wrap bracelets}

This lovely family is the Long Family. They're in the process of adopting a sweet little child from Ethiopia. When they mentioned that they were thinking about starting to raise support soon, we began brainstorming and praying about ways we could help. Thus, the Journey to Ethiopia Chatter Tiles came into being. We sell them in sets of 4 ($20 each) and each chatter tile has a verse that has been instrumental in their adoption process. Jitney's Journeys will give $10 from each set sold to the Long Family as they continue to follow Christ in obedience and come closer to bringing their child home.

You can read more about their story here

Please email me if you'd like to buy a set of the Ethiopia Chatter Tiles. We can ship them anywhere in the U.S. but we will have to charge a little extra for shipping. The tiles are pretty stinkin' heavy. ;)

{12 x 12 "Hebrews 6:19-20" anchor mixed media art piece}
{our nest chalkboard}
{home sweet home pillow}
{chatter tiles}

{handwritten merry Christmas and gift tags}

Thank you so much to For Life Ministries for allowing us to take part in such an amazing event! They will be hosting a few more Shop with a Purpose events before the year ends. If you'd like to come, email us and we'll give you the details {or you can follow our Facebook page here for updates}.

The Jitney's Journeys Studio : Overview & Quick Intro

Here is our finished studio!!

It may look super cluttered to most people, but oh, how I love this space!!! This studio has everything I need to be creative, including tons of storage and wall space of inspiration.

During our house search, we intentionally looked for a room without carpet that I could make into our studio. This house had a guest bedroom - with tile. It's kind of weird that they would have tile in a bedroom and I'm not sure of many people that would be into that kind of thing - but it was a bonus for us! It's super easy to sweep up burlap and glitter; and paint easily scrapes off the tile.

When we first moved into this house, I placed my collection of bottles on the built-ins. Then my mom came to visit and the collection was the first thing to go. Fortunately, she suggested they would look better on ledge under the giant window in the studio and I can't imagine this place without them. It's almost like a stained-glass window when the sun shines through. She's a genius.

I painted two coats of "jogging path" from Sherwin Williams on the studio walls to replace the standard beige that covers the walls of the rest of the house. It's a soft gray and the name of the color screams success, right? It's almost like saying, "This room is destined for the jogging path to success." Plus, the gray walls brought out the grays in the tile very nicely. I'm super pleased with the turnout.

We built the desk ourselves (we, meaning JD, dad and myself) and I stained, painted and put up all of the shelving while JD was at work. Surprise!

This space has all of my knick-knacks, leather-working tools, mailbox, crafting supplies and paper. You may notice the sign that says, "Hippies Use Backdoor - no exceptions". I found this sign in college and fell in love. I'll admit that I've been called a hippie (or "crunchy") many times in my life, especially recently. JD and I have been riding our bikes everywhere over the past three weeks, including our weekly grocery trip, so it makes sense for people to have that perception of us, but I digress. It's funny and that's what matters.

This is my shipping, packaging and inspiration station. We placed the antique door chalkboard against this wall to keep track of projects, birthdays, weddings and babies. Each order I receive is assigned to a basket on the shelf. Now I can set an order aside and work on another one, if needed, and I'll still be organized! This is a new one for me. ;) Then we have bags, envelopes, tissue, etc. for shipping and packaging needs.

Please note the "Safety First" sign and First Aid box hanging on the wall - both finds from Mom, of course. I store all of my small supplies in the First Aid box, and the Safety First sign is just too cool for words.

Alas, this is what you see when you walk in the doorway: my sewing nook. Isn't it charming? Bonus: I bought the chair from a thrift store for $3, painted it and recovered it. It's not only pretty, but quite comfy!

I will be posting about each section of the studio over the next week or two. Hope you enjoy the tour!

Etsy Product Release : Moustache Burlap Tote

And we've got ANOTHER Etsy Product Release!!

Find the Moustache Burlap Tote Bag here.

It's oh-so-simple and oh-too-cute.

To be honest with you, I'm quite unsure of the best way to spell moustache. Regardless of your personal preference in spelling it "moustache" or "mustache", this burlap tote bag is the perfect size to hold all of your valuables or party essentials. You can stock it up with fantastic goodies and give it away as a gift. In fact, we think this would be a fabulous tote to fill with wonderful trinkets for a bridesmaid's gift.

The only thing you can't do with this simple tote is tape it above your lips.

This was the first time I have posed for any of our shop media. In fact, it was a self-photo on a timer. I hope it doesn't look ridiculous... You would tell me if it did, right?

The vintage scarf is from an amazing collection of scarves my grandmother (whom we refer to as GinGin) so lovingly gave me. Not a day has gone by that I haven't had one in my hair (it's been a couple of weeks).

Back to the tote...
Here are the specifics:

One black moustache is stenciled in the middle of the front of the bag. If you would like a different colored moustache, we would love for you to message us with your preference and we will customize your order without a problem. The backside of the burlap bag is plain unless you would like us to monogram a name or initial across the back for $3 per tote.

HAPPY WEDNESDAY, EVERYONE!!

Etsy Product Release : Easter Bunny Burlap Tote

Do you realize that Easter is in THREE weeks!?

Surprise... The bunny will be hoppin' in early this year!

Don't have a panic attack YET. We can help you take care of one thing....

Introducing the Easter Basket Tote:

Isn't it lovely??

You can find it in our Etsy shop here

My mom and I came up with this little beauty in February while JD was out of the country. She is a genius and I'm so thankful for our mother / daughter / closest girlfriend / business-partners relationship. I can't wait to show you the antique booth I helped her and dad set up at the Cotton Depot.

Now, back to the Easter totes...

Our little cousin, Emma Kate, came over for the day to be our Jitney model. She was a perfect lady and her mom dressed her in the PERFECT attire!!

The bag is blurry in the photo below but it was such a sweet photo of Emma Kate that I couldn't resist in sharing it!! She showed off that tote like a paid pro.

The Deets:

This sweet Easter Bunny burlap tote bag is perfect for the kid on the hunt! It's large enough to hold tons of candy but small enough for a young child to carry around.

Don't forget to order one for your favorite teacher too!

One white Easter bunny is stenciled in the middle of the front of the bag. We handmake each bunny tail out of special paper. If you would like a different colored bunny, we would love for you to message us with your preference and we will customize your order without a problem. Each bag comes with a special Easter tag attached to one of the handles. The backside of the burlap bag is plain but can be stenciled with a name or monogram in any color for $3 extra. Message us and we will create a custom order if you would like it personalized.

The burlap bag is lined with a sheer thick material to prevent items from slipping through the burlap material. It has been coated with a protective coating for easier cleaning and color fastness. However, we do not recommend machine-washing.

Dimensions: 9" x 11" x 4"

Life Skills 101 Class and More Etsy Product Releases!!

We shipped off a set of matching placemats and this table runner to one of our new favorite customers, Heather, last week. She requested a cursive font. I sent her a few fonts to choose from and she picked this super cute one!! Everything turned out fantastic and she really seemed to love them!! We love customizing orders to our customers' preferences! If you find something in our store that you love but would like to tweak to fit your style, just let us know and we will be more than happy to work with you to make it happen!!

Monogrammed Coasters

Don't destroy your coffee table with water stains. Use these elegant monogrammed coasters and entertain your guests in style!

Each coaster measures 3.75" x 3.75" and has an aged, rustic character. Each coaster is painted with a monogram of your choice and in the color of your choice (brown, black and red are the most popular). We carefully place felt pads on the backs of each coaster in order to protect your furniture from being scratched or damaged. These coasters are sealed with an exterior / interior protective coating. They can handle the puddles from the most condensating of drinks; and their luster can easily be revived with the swipe of a wet or dry dishcloth. :)

This Home is Our Nest ("Home Is the Nest You Build" Series) Chatter Shadow Box

Henry Ward Beecher once said, "Birds finish the nest with their own breast, so it is the bosom that makes the home, and not the bill or the claw." Home is the nest you build for all who enter your house. Our home has been built with endless of joy, love, blessings and friends.

This one-of-a-kind wooden shadowbox measures 6" x 6" with a width of 1.5" on each side.

One on side, a large, beautiful bird's nest peaks out from the shadows and hosts three light blue and brown-speckled eggs. I have handwritten Henry Ward Beecher's quote around the light blue border. The sides have big, lightly golden polka-dots and an aged glaze.

The opposite side boasts a pretty turquoise and gray paisley background with five cardstock tiles: heart with rhinestones {love}, a brown bird with a crown, counting my many blessings list, friends hiking with a turquoise beaded base, and a road map {joy}.

This Lovely Nest ("Home Is the Nest You Build" Series) Chatter Shadow Box

Home is the nest you build for all who enter your home. When building our nest, we've found that our home is intricately woven with faith, hope and love. Without these elements, our home would simply not survive.

This one-of-a-kind wooden shadowbox measures 6" x 6" with a width of 1.5" on each side.

One on side, a large, beautiful bird's nest peaks out from the shadows and hosts three light blue and brown-speckled eggs. Scrabble tiles spell "Nest" against a deep golden background. The sides have big, white polka-dots and an aged glaze. The top of the box has a tiny white and gray bird perched along the surface.

The opposite side claims a beautiful gold and maroon background with five cardstock tiles: cross {faith}, a brown bird with a crown, belt of hope, small nest with glittered light blue eggs, and a heart with rhinestones {love}.

Life to the Fullest Subway Art ("Home Is the Nest You Build" Series) Subway Chatter Box

Believing, dreaming, joy, growth, bliss, love... these are all crucial elements to living "life to the fullest"!

This wooden Subway Art box measures 10" x 10" x 1.5" and may be hung up on a wall or stand alone due to its 1.5" width. Be constantly reminded by the words on this piece to Believe, Love, Live, Dream, Joy, Bliss, and Grow. The background is layered with distressed ivories, golds and browns. Three antique, rusted stars line the bottom of the piece and one medium-sized star makes a statement beside "Dream". In the top lefthand corner, three rusted mini stars line the corner with wire nailed into the wood.
